Riley McGree takes defiant Celtic transfer snub stance as he revisits the crucial Ange Postecoglou phone call

Bullish Riley McGree insists he made the right choice in turning down Celtic for Middlesborough in January.

The Aussie midfielder was all set to join Ange Postecoglou 's side before a late offer from Boro turned his head.

Celtic bailed out of a bidding war club after initially having a £2million offer accepted for the FC Charlotte playmaker.

Having decided to move south to pursue his English Premier League dream, it will be another season in the English Championship for McGree after Chris Wilder's men failed to even make the playoff spots.

North of the border, Postecoglou led the Hoops to the Scottish Premiership title and guaranteeing Champions League group stage football.

However, the defiant 23-year-old insists he wouldn't change a thing after holding talks with the Parkhead boss.

Speaking to Optus Sport, McGree said: “You come to these decisions in moments in your career when you have to make decisions.

“I truly believe I made the right one. All respect to Celtic and Ange, but I am a Middlesbrough player."

The playmaker was pushed on if the Parkhead boss had called him personally: “Yes, he did.

“And it wasn’t easy, of course.

“But I did what I thought was right and I will stand by that until the day I die.”
