Rikki Neave’s mother is desperate for more evidence to make sure her six-year-old son’s killer stays behind bars.
James Watson, 41, this week got permission to appeal against his conviction for the 1994 murder of Rikki, whose strangled, naked body was posed in a star-shape for sexual gratification.
Watson was sentenced to life with a minimum of 15 years in June last year. Ruth Neave, whose son’s body was found near a housing estate in Peterborough, Cambs, said: “There are still people who know things. Someone else might have seen something.
“All we can hope is someone has a change of heart and comes forward with something, even at this stage.”
Watson’s lawyers told the Court of Appeal the evidence against him was “circumstantial”. The formal appeal hearing date is yet to be confirmed.
But Ruth said: “I can’t see grounds for appeal. With the evidence, there should be no question.”
