Rihanna was in Chester-le-Street for the cricket and this is the reason why

It was the celeb story that no-one saw coming but on a sunny Monday in County Durham, Rihanna graced Chester-le-Street with her presence to take in some Cricket World Cup action.

The famous singer responsible for number 1s like Only Girl in the World and We Found Love was in the crowd at Durham Emirates Riverside ground to cheer on the West Indies in their clash with Sri LAnka.

Word soon got around about after she caught the eye of Sky Sports cameras and before long people in the ground were getting texts from friends and family to tell them, while those who weren't there were tweeting their shock about her visit on Twitter.

Rihanna is herself of course from Barbados but she has a strong link to the West Indies team, as she went to school Windies player Carlos Brathwaite.

She was also a friend of Carlos' brother Kraigg and in the same class as England cricketer Chris Jordan.

The West Indies Cricket Team's Twitter account posted pictures of Rihanna watching the game, captioned "Look who came to Rally with the MenInMaroon today! Hey rihanna!"

being in their neck of the woods were of total shock, with tweets including "It's mad that Rihanna is bopping about Chester le Street," and "As if Rihanna’s in bloody Chester-le-street ...fancy coming along to the bridle and putting a quick show on hun x
