Rihanna To Star In Animated Smurfs Movie And Create Music

Rihanna Barbadian singer and businesswoman

Rihanna, the renowned musical superstar, has been making waves in the film industry with her recent nomination for a prestigious honor at the 95th Annual Academy Awards. The Barbadian pop singer is set to star in an upcoming animated Smurfs movie, where she will not only provide the voice for a character but also create original music for the film.

At CinemaCon, an annual event showcasing upcoming projects in the entertainment industry, Rihanna's involvement in the Smurfs movie was announced. This move aligns with the common path for musicians to earn recognition at the Oscars, particularly through the Best Original Song category.

Less than two years ago, Rihanna received her first Academy Award nomination for the song “Lift Me Up,” featured in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Despite being a chart-topper, she lost the award to the song 'Naatu Naatu' from the Indian film RRR.

Rihanna's decision to participate in the Smurfs movie may stem from various reasons, such as exploring new opportunities, financial incentives, or creating content for her children. With nine Grammy wins and a total of 34 nominations, including her Oscar nod, Rihanna is no stranger to accolades in the music industry.

The Smurfs Movie, scheduled for release on February 15, 2025, boasts a star-studded cast including Nick Offerman, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, and other notable celebrities. Rihanna's multifaceted involvement in the project signals her ambition to make a mark in the film world and potentially secure another shot at an Oscar nomination.
