At the start of the year all signs pointed to 2025 being Rihanna’s big music comeback. All that might be on hold again.
It’s been nine years since the superstar released new music with 2016’s Anti. Having given the world eight studio albums, Rihanna swapped the music industry for becoming a beauty and lingerie tycoon with Fenty and Savage x Fenty.
When she was spotted walking into a recording studio in January this year, fans started getting their hopes up that RiRi might be planning her grand return to music.
By February there were rumours she was tipped to perform at Glastobury 2025, and reports there were plans afoot for a series of London shows in July at West Ham’s London Stadium.
Those shows were pulled from the schedule in March just before they were about to be officially announced. The Sun reported that the star had got “cold feet” — but last night’s Met Gala reveal suggests there was an entirely different reason for cancelling those shows.
Rihanna debuted a perfectly tailored baby bump on the red carpet of the 2025 Met Gala, confirming she is pregnant with her third child with A$AP Rocky. Marc Jacobs designed the dress, which featured corseting moulded to fit her stomach.
The couple already welcomed sons RZA in 2022 and Riot in 2023. Rihanna has masterminded a headline grabbing bump debut for each of her babies.
For her first pregnancy, Rihanna organised a photoshoot in New York’s Harlem with photographer Mike Diggs. The second was announced during her half time performance at the Super Bowl.
This baby news also could explain the interesting pose Rihanna chose for her April cover of Harper’s Bazaar, where she has her back turned to the camera shielding her front.
Plus it could be the real reason that Rihanna turned down a headline slot at Coachella this year.
Understandably, even if there were concrete plans for a July series of shows in London, it likely would have clashed with the due date. Album number nine might have to wait for baby number three, then.
