Rihanna’s Met Gala dresses: From 'Pizza dress' to 'Pope' the singer's best looks

Rihanna and the Met Gala go together like peas and carrots. The singer loves to go big on the costume exhibit's theme every year, throwing down legendary looks (one of which took two years to create) and garnering nicknames including 'Pope Rihanna.'

In 2015, Rihanna sailed into the 'China: Through the Looking Glass'-themed Gala wearing a showstopping Guo Pei cape.

The piece took the designer two years to create and was perfectly accented with an elegant gold headpiece.

“I was researching Chinese couture on the Internet and I found it,” Rihanna told Vanity Fair of the embroidered yellow gown. “I can’t really walk in it without any help—but it’s so worth it. I love this dress so much!”

Then for the 'Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between' party, Rihanna wore a Comme des Garçons look from the Fall 2016 runway which made her look like a giant, fabulous carnation, with layered floral fabric and red heels that laced all the way up her legs.

But then came the 2018 Met Gala, when Rihanna dressed like a bedazzled pope to interpret the 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination' in a very literal way.

The jeweled robe and papal mitre, sparkling Christian Louboutin heels and Cartier jewelry from designer Margiela couldn’t keep her out of the spotlight. And rightfully so, as she was co-chair of the event with Amal Clooney.

We can't wait to see what she conjures up for this year's theme: 'Camp: Notes on Fashion.' See you there, your holiness.
