A man accused of extreme right-wing terror offences allegedly shared videos of the Christchurch mosques terror attack online, a London court has heard.
Michael Joseph Ian Nugent, 37, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court via videolink from Southwark police station on Tuesday afternoon.
Nugent is charged with two counts of encouraging terrorism, one of disseminating a terrorist publication about how to carry out a silent assassination, and nine counts of collecting information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.
Nugent was said in court to share “extreme right-wing ideology”.
He not only posted on extreme right-wing channels on the Telegram messaging service, but was also an administrator, the court was told.
On the one-year anniversary of the Christchurch terrorist attack in March this year, he allegedly posted a video of the New Zealand atrocity.
He is also said to have posted the manifesto of Brenton Tarrant, the white supremacist currently being sentenced in New Zealand for killing 51 worshippers at two mosques last year.
Nugent, of Parkland Grove, Ashford, Surrey, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.
No indication of pleas were entered during the five-minute hearing.
He was remanded in custody by deputy chief magistrate Tan Ikram until October 2, when he will appear before the Old Bailey.
