Ridvan Yilmaz Rangers chances talked up but Borna Barisic stands out in one key area says pundit

Ridvan Yilmaz could replace Borna Barisic as Rangers' first choice left-back next season - but the Croatian has one key attribute over him.

That's the opinion of former Light Blues star Alan Hutton who heaped praise on the Turkey international for his displays in the back to back starts and clean sheets against Aberdeen and Celtic at Ibrox. Michael Beale grabbed his first win over Ange Postecoglou at the fifth attempt with a comfortable 3-0 success. Todd Cantwell, John Souttar and Fashion Sakala grabbed the goals in the final Old Firm derby of the season.

The final run-in has offered the likes of Robby McCrorie, Rabbi Matondo and Yilmaz the chance to stake a claim for next season as part of Beale's rebuild. The left-back arrived for big money in the summer under Giovanni van Bronckhrost but has experienced an injury hit first campaign. But he's back fit and pundit Hutton believes he could land he left side role.

Asked if Yilmaz could be in front of Barisic in the pecking order, he told Football Insider : “I think there is a possibility.

“I actually thought he came in and played really well. The likes of [Rabbi] Matondo also showed why Rangers brought him to the club, [Nicolas] Raskin, [Todd] Cantwell were exceptional.

“Yilmaz is very aggressive in his defending, 1v1 he is not shy about getting forward. There is room for improvement there is no getting away from it.

“I think what Barisic has over him is his final delivery but that can be worked on and improved. I think that is the type of player that the manager likes, those with room for improvement.“
