Ridvan Yilmaz offered Rangers Champions League chance as Besiktas recruit gets to work after clearing red tape

New signing Ridvan Yilmaz has joined up with his new Rangers teammates for the first time after missing the opening day of the league season.

Rangers moved quickly to reinvest the club record fee they negotiated with Ajax for Calvin Bassey to add the 21-year-old to the squad. The Ibrox side agreed to pay out a guaranteed £3.4m plus £1.9m in potential add-ons with a 20 per cent sell-on clause written into Yilmaz's contract to bring the full back from Besiktas, but despite the quick-fire deal he missed the opening day Premiership victory against Livingston.

Borna Barisic started at left-back in West Lothian as Gio van Bronckhorst's side got their league campaign off the perfect start, with the Champions League third round qualifier with Union Saint Gilloise coming up on Tuesday. Yilmaz had remained in Turkey despite the deal getting over the line as he was still waiting on his work permit, but the red tape has now been cleared setting up a debut against the Belgian side.

He joined up with the squad for a session at Auchenhowie as the Ibrox coaching team put the Turkish international through his paces. Yilmaz is in line for his debut at the Joseph Marien Stadium having been named in the Champions League squad despite the work permit delay.
