Starring Ben Affleck and Jodie Comer, Ridley Scott's The Last Duel should have made millions at the box office, but millennials put paid to that idea - according to the director.
Ridley Scott's big budget historical drama cost $100 million to make, but has so far only raked in $27 million at the box office, according to Forbes.
And now Alien director Ridley reckons he knows the reason why.
Speaking on comedian Marc Maron's WTF podcast, he said: "I think what it boils down to - what we've got today [is] the audience who were brought up on these f***ing cell phones.
"The millennian, [who] do not ever want to be taught anything unless you told it on the cellphone."
"This is a broad stroke, but I think we're dealing with it right now with Facebook.
"This is a misdirection that has happened where it's given the wrong kind of confidence to this latest generation, I think."
The film, which also features Matt Damon and Adam Driver, tells the story of a knight who challenges his friend to a duel after his wife claims she was raped by him.
Despite not making as much as some may have predicted the film has received largely positive reviews from both critics and fans.
The Mirror described The Last Duel as a "gritty, handsome and well-acted historical drama from Ridley Scott".
Ahead of the film, Ben, who co-wrote the script with friend Matt, said: "Schools educate you, and religious services deliver sermons, and movies — at their best — can generate empathy and generate compassion.
“There is this paradox of the human experience where oftentimes different people come away from the same situation with different impressions of that. And yet there can only be one truth.
"We wanted to examine that. But we wanted to do it through the lens of this situation."
Ben's fans will remember it was at the premiere of The Last Duel that he went public with J-Lo as the pair sashayed down the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival.
It was their first public event since rekindling their romance and fans couldn't get enough of their sizzling chemistry.
J-Lo, 52, was positively glowing holding hands with Ben, 49, who plays the role of Count Pierre of Alençon in the historical drama.
