Ridiculous: Panthers RB Mike Davis says he was fined $17,000 for this play

When Panthers running back Mike Davis tweeted a couple weeks ago he hoped he doesn’t get fined for trucking Vikings rookie D.J. Wonnum, we assumed he was joking. The league office has never been known for its sense of humor, though.

Davis says he was indeed fined $17,000 for this gorgeous run from Week 14 when he drilled a hole directly through Wonnum’s chest with his head.

There’s a reason why the NFL doesn’t want players leading with their helmet, but that’s a really tough fine to swallow. Let them play football.
