It has been claimed that reported Nottingham Forest target Dwight Gayle has had a placed on his services.
The Reds and West Bromwich Albion have been linked with a move for the during the January transfer window.
Magpies boss Steve Bruce had earlier reiterated his desire to keep Gayle at St James’ Park beyond January, but the Telegraph say only a permanent deal will encourage the Toon boss to do business.
They claim that only bids in excess of £15m would temp United into doing business, a figure which Bruce believes would be too much for either Albion or Forest to stump up.
Should the Reds opt for a deal, that figure would surpass the £13 club-record fee they spent on Benfica's Joao Carvalho last summer.
Forest fans have been reacting to the rumoured fee that their club would have to pay to sign Gayle, and here is a selection of what they had to say.
Scott Markham: “I would rather pay £20m for Ollie Watkins he’s still 23 and could be worth more in 2-3 years especially if he keeps the good form up.”
Mark Wolden: “Bowen or Watkins for that sort of money.”
Chris Smithurst: “Hmm 15 million for a 29 year old who doesn't play? No thanks.”
Mark O’Neill: “If he helps us get promoted it’s money well spent.”
Paul Andski: “£8m/£9m tops.”
Mark Morley: “I wouldn’t pay more then £15.00 for him.”
