The Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by MARS Equestrian at the Kentucky Horse Park is in the books. The internationally respected Equestrian competition attracts riders from all over.
Buck Davidson certainly has Eventing in his blood. His father was an Olympic gold medalist and the only person to win back-to-back world championships. The Unionville Pennsylvania rider said if you’re an event rider in America the Horse Park in April is where you want to be.
He was asked just how many years he’s made the trip to the bluegrass.
“Well, how many years have I been coming? I’ve been coming before I could walk. I came for the first world championships, yeah in 78, so I was two. And yeah, I’ve been coming kind of every year since,” said Davidson.
Davidson said the international love for the Three-Day-Event actually began in 1978 when the World Championships were held at the new Horse Park. Davidson said quote, “The crowds came and they haven’t left.”
Another rider making a return visit was Jenny Saville. Saville said it’s not one aspect that makes the Three Day what it is.
“I galloped the mom of the favorite for the Derby, “Forte,” So, I’m really excited, hope she wins…he wins..pardon me. So, that’s kind of special for me. So I think it’s kind of everything altogether. I think there’s a lot of connections with racing and eventing. And so…but it’s the track, it’s the ground, it’s everything here,” said Saville.
The Three-Day Event, like so many large-scale events, continues to recover from the arrival of coronavirus in the U.S. The event was not held in 2020 and had no spectators in 2021. Record ticket sales occurred this year.
