Ride resembling 'flying swastikas' is shut down by German theme park

A theme park in Germany has shut down a ride after complaints that it looked like "flying swastikas".

The operators of the Eagle Fly attraction apologised, saying they had not noticed the ride's resemblance to the Nazi emblem until they saw footage circulated online.

The ride in the Tatzmania theme park, near the town of Loffingen in Germany's Baden-Wurttemberg region, consists of two spinning carriages on the ends of a metal arm.

The attraction only opened at the end of July and no visitors had complained about its appearance, the park's director Rudiger Braun said.

However, he said people started commenting on social media earlier this month, linking the ride's orbit with swastikas.

Under one clip of the ride posted on Reddit, one person wrote: "Ah the flying swastika".

Another wore: "Something like that would have to be banned. The things look like swastikas."

Mr Braun told the regional news publication SWR that he wanted to, "apologise to anyone who feels disturbed or offended by our design."

The attraction is to be redesigned before it reopens to the public, he added.

Displaying the Nazi emblem is illegal in Germany and can be punished with prison terms of up to three years.
