Rico Lewis praised for Man City Youth Cup attitude after Champions League heroics

Rico Lewis has been hailed for showing the right attitude after helping Manchester City’s Under-18s conquer Blackburn in the FA Youth Cup just over a month since featuring in the Champions League against Sevilla.

The right-back made his European bow in October when he featured in the 5-0 home group stage win over Copenhagen. Two months earlier, the 18-year-old had made his senior debut in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth in the club’s second Premier League game of the season, coming on as a late substitute.

Lewis lined up on a bitterly cold night for the Under-18s on Wednesday, as City eased past Blackburn 3-0 thanks to an effort from Will Dickson and a double from Jaden Heskey, son of former England striker Emile.

Lewis was given the armband for the night and impressed many with his attitude and commitment during the game, despite playing six first-team matches this season. He received great praise on Instagram after full-time when a football account highlighted his professionalism.

Thesecretscout1: I don’t want to hear about a player complaining about playing back in his own age group again. Rico Lewis tonight captained #mancity u18s. In October he made his Champions League debut, he also just got back from first-team training in Abu Dhabi! I’ve seen players' heads gone when these things happen! Loved seeing that tonight from Rico and City.

Davidmclennan14: Rico got his head screwed on, he loves being out there regardless of the situation.

Mletshwene: Getting valuable minutes before returning to first team once club footy continues.

Mcfc_dani: Love people with Rico's mentality, I'd be buzzing to be able to play more matches after a break as long as this.

Objoraoc: We create mentality monsters at City.

Joe.towler__: Only just getting started.

Stevebedlow: Been advised well, it’s all part of the education.

Lewis is considered a first-team player at City and featured for the whole 90 minutes in City’s 2-0 League Cup win over Chelsea last month.
