Ricky Ponting to stay as Delhi Capitals head coach, hints co-owner Parth Jindal

NEW DELHI: Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal on Wednesday hinted that former Australia captain Ricky Ponting is likely to be retained as the head coach of the franchise despite the team's disappointing ninth-place finish in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

There were speculations about Ponting's future with the franchise after their poor performance, but Jindal's tweet hinted at the continuation of the core think-tank, which includes Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly and Ponting. This suggests that Ponting will remain in his role as the head coach for the upcoming season.

"Preparations for next years' IPL are underway here Delhi Capitals, along side SGanguly99 and Ricky Ponting. We assure the fans that Kiran (Grandhi) and I are working hard to get back to where we want this franchise to be and that is right at the very top," Jindal tweeted.

Despite Ponting's expected continuation as the head coach of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, there is uncertainty regarding the composition of his support staff for the upcoming season.

There are speculations that Shane Watson and James Hopes may not be part of the coaching staff in the next edition. The future of fielding coach Biju George remains unclear, while Praveen Amre and Ajit Agarkar are likely to remain with the team.

It remains to be seen whether Ponting will have the freedom to choose his preferred support staff, as there is currently no clarity on this matter.
