Ricky Martin denies 'disgusting' claim of sexual relationship, domestic violence with nephew

Ricky Martin's lawyer has denied the 'disgusting' accusation by his nephew that they had a sexual relationship.

The 50-year-old singer has vehemently denied the claims made by his 21-year-old nephew, the Mirror reports. It comes after Ricky was reportedly issued with a restraining order following a domestic violence incident in Puerto Rico.

The victim's identity was withheld at the time but Ricky's brother, Eric Martin, has since identified the alleged victim as their nephew. Ricky has been accused of "'exercising physical and psychological attacks" on his nephew during a seven month relationship.

This reportedly came to an end around two months ago. However, TMZ reports the star has strongly denied the accusations.

His lawyer said: "Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges. Ricky Martin has, of course, never been - and would never be - involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew.

"The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting. We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs.

"But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts."

A representative for Ricky also previously dismissed the allegations, saying that claims of abuse were "completely false and fabricated," according to People Magazine. The singer is expected to appear in a Puerto Rican court on July 21 for his trial.

Ricky's recent social media posts have suggested he is taking a 'business as usual' approach amid the accusations. He promoted his new single Ácido Sabor on Twitter by sharing photos of billboards in Times Square and elsewhere in the world.

Meanwhile on Instagram, he shared a photo of the cover of his latest EP, titled Play, which was released on Wednesday.

He shared a message in Spanish which translates into English as: "Thank you for so much love family. Hope y'all are enjoying #PLAY.

"If you haven't heard it click the link in my profile."

Ricky has been in the spotlight ever since his debut solo single, Fuego Contra Fuego, was released in September 1991. His fame only increased in 1995 when he released his Spanish language song, Maria, which charted around the world.

Ricky topped the charts in 1999 with the release of his single, Livin' la Vida Loca, which was a number 1 on both sides of the Atlantic. Since then, the singer has been lavished with a range of accolades including two Grammy Awards and Billboard Music Awards.

The singer became a trailblazer for the LGBT+ community in March 2010 when he came out as gay with a video message to fans where he declared: "I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am."

He went on to marry an artist named Jwan Yosef in 2017, and together they have four children.
