‘Ricky Hatton was my first hero’: Fans line streets to bid farewell to boxer at Manchester funeral

Ricky Hatton fans lined the streets in and around Manchester in their thousands as they paid tribute to the late boxing legend.

Several boxers and celebrities arrived at Manchester Cathedral on Friday morning, ahead of a private funeral due to take place for Hatton at midday.

Danny Atkinson, who was standing outside the Cheshire Cheese pub paying his respects as the funeral procession began, praised Hatton as one of his first heroes.

Hatton unexpectedly died on 14 September at the age of 46, with the boxer found dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
