Ricky Hatton fans will gather in Manchester today to bid farewell to the boxing legend after he tragically died at the age of 46 last month.
Tributes have poured in from around the world for the northern light-welterweight and welterweight powerhouse, after he was found dead at his Greater Manchester home in mid-September.
Friends, family and fans expressed shock at the tragic news, but police officers confirmed at the time that his death wasn’t being treated as suspicious.
In memory of the Stockport-born sports star, fans will gather around Manchester today as Hatton’s hearse makes its way to a funeral service around midday.

The funeral procession for Ricky Hatton will begin today (October 10) at 9:45am in Hyde, where the boxing star’s home is located.
Based in Greater Manchester, the hearse will then travel into the city centre, where his funeral will take place at Manchester Cathedral at 12:00 p.m.
It’s understood that fans can gather along the route, which starts at Hatton’s local pub, The Cheshire Cheese, before travelling through various locations in Hyde and Denton, before heading into town before midday.
After Manchester Cathedral, the procession will end at the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City FC.
It will undoubtedly be an emotional day for thousands of fans, as they bid their farewell to the local legend.
Who was Ricky Hatton?
Ricky Hatton was an iconic boxer from Greater Manchester who shot to sporting fame in the late 90s and early 2000s for his prowess in the ring.
He competed in both lighter welterweight and welterweight matches, defeating some of the best boxers of his generation, including Kostya Tszyu.
Across an impressive 15-year career, he won 45 out of 48 professional bouts before taking a step back from the professional ring in 2012. More recently, he had also announced a comeback, planning to box again in Abu Dhabi in December 2025.
Away from the boxing ring, Hatton was also famed for his down-to-earth personality and openness about mental health.
The staunch Manchester City fan was a proud father of three, as well as an MBE recipient.
How did Ricky Hatton die?
No cause of death has been officially revealed, but reports state that the police are not treating his death as suspicious.
The 46-year-old, who had reportedly been planning the upcoming Christmas holidays and boxing events, was found by a close friend and long-term manager after he failed to appear at a boxing show the night before.
His devastated family had also said the father of three had been “in a good place” before his tragic passing.
"We are all distraught at the events of recent days. To all our knowledge, despite his well-documented struggles, Richard was in a good place," his family said in a statement.
"We are all in shock at the events that unfolded over the weekend,” they added.
