National Television Awards 2020 viewers have been left seething this evening after Ricky Gervais’ After Life was “robbed” by Mrs Brown’s Boys who beat him to the Best Comedy gong.
The show, starring Brendan O'Carroll as the smutty-mouthed matriarch pipped critically acclaimed shows Derry Girls, Fleabag, Sex Education and After Life to the top prize this evening.
Some viewers were not very pleased with the divisive win, and took to Twitter to voice their anger at Ricky Gervais’ show losing out.
One wrote: "Mrs. Brown's Boys winning the Comedy award is a prime example why people in the UK shouldn’t be trusted when voting"
Another tweeted: "Mrs Brown’s Boys winning any sort of comedy award explains why this country is f**ked.

“The wallopers who voted for that s***e gets to choose our government. Think of that."
Many argued After Life was the obvious winner, one tweeted: "So Mrs Brown's Boys is funnier than Afterlife? WTAF. Utter humourless s***e at best."
Another echoed: "In case you’ve never seen an episode of Mrs Brown’s Boys, simply s**t in your hands and smear it all over your TV screen. It’s basically the same thing ..."
A third said: "Mrs Brown's Boys is far and away the least funny programme on television, how the f**k did it win an NTA never mind beat Sex Education and Afterlife on the way to doing it?"

The NTAs 2020 were back with a bang tonight, with David Williams hosting the show.
He took over from Dermot O'Leary who has hosted the show for the last ten years.
Among the big winners of the night included Ant and Dec, who gave an emotional speech after winning their nineteenth gong. The Geordie duo have now taken home the TV Presenters of the Year award for a staggering 19 consecutive years.
They also picked up the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award for I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
Peaky Blinders had an incredible night of victory winning Best Drama, and the show’s star Cillian Murphy winning Best Drama Performance.
Emmerdale scooped Best Serial Drama for the forth year in a row while Corrie’s Katie McGlynn won Best Serial Drama Performance.
