Ricky Gervais says those who are offended by his Golden Globes jokes are 'whiney cunts'

Comedian Ricky Gervais has responded to the backlash against his controversial monologue at the Golden Globes by calling those who were offended ‘whiney cunts’.

In an unusual stance after the awards ceremony, Mr Gervais posted a series of tweets on Tuesday afternoon to explain and defend his jokes.

His monologue on Sunday night had various targets including transgender Caitlyn Jenner - “I’ve changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner, obviously.”

He also called out actress Jennifer Lawrence’s attempt to expose gender pay inequality in Hollywood, by joking that poorly paid manual workers have little sympathy with the millionaire’s campaign.

He told the celebrities that no one cared about their awards as much as them, and said he kept one of his three Golden Globes awards to knock robbers over the head.

Responding to criticism, Mr Gervais tweeted: “Hosting The Globes has made me want to do a new stand up show next year. Now THAT’S when you’re allowed to be offended. You whiney cunts.”

He also tweeted that: “Suggesting a joke about Caitlin Jenner is automatically transphobic is like suggesting a joke about Bill Cosby is automatically racist.”
