Ricky Gervais reveals After Life series 3 release date in new poster and images for Netflix show

Ricky Gervais has revealed the release date for the final series of After Life, along with a new images and artwork

The show has followed local journalist Tony, played by creator Gervais, struggling after the death of his wife and the power and companionship of a family dog.

Earlier in the series, Tony considers taking his own life only to be stopped by his beloved German Shepherd Brandy looking hungrily at her dinner bowl.

The third season will be available to stream from January 14 and promises to continue exploring the developing relationship between Tony and carer Emma, played by Ashley Jenson.

How exactly things will pan out is a mystery, with Gervais previously hinting in interviews that his character Tony always expects things to end badly and subconsciously craves grief.

Ricky Gervais has previously confirmed that German Shepherd Brandy will survive the season and even be a bigger feature.

In a previous tweet, Gervais promised season three would be “the best yet”, adding, “Also, the dog does not die.”

In another he said: “One of the main themes of AfterLife is that a dog can save your life. This is ramped up in season 3 & she becomes as important as any other character.”

Behind the scenes photos released by Netflix have also confirmed that loads of our fan favourites will be back, including Anne (Penelope Wilton), Postman Pat (Joe Wilkinson), June (Jo Hartley), Lenny (Tony Way) and Julian (Tim Plester).

There will also be one or two new characters to meet - actor and comedian Kate Robbins announced that she’d be joining, although we’ll have to tune in to find out exactly who she’s playing.

The first season aired in 2019 and the second in 2020.

It is not all good news though, as Gervais has promised this season will be the last.

Back in July, he told The Mirror : “I’ve already made my mind up there won’t be a four.”
