Ricky Gervais planning After Life season 2 for Netflix

A second season of After Life is already being planned by Ricky Gervais - days after the first dropped on the streaming giant.

Comedian Ricky is busy working hard on ideas for a second series of the comedy, after rave reviews from fans and critics alike.

Gervais, the creator of The Office and Extras, took to social media to thank fans for their feedback this week.

Writing on Twitter, Gervais posted: “Once again, I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your amazing tweets about #AfterLife.

"I’ve never had a reaction like it.

"I have a spring in my step as I skip towards writing series 2.”

Gervais also told  Digital Spy  that he would love to a second season.

He revealed he “ fell in love with the characters", saying: “I’ve got an idea of where it can go.

"And the second series is always better, usually because you know the actors [when you’re writing for them].”

The show follows journalist Tony - played by Gervais - as he struggles to navigate grief and loss in the wake of his wife's death.

While writer and director Ricky is known for his comedy, there's much more to this six-episode series than that.

As expected with a show about grief, there are some extremely sad moments, WalesOnline reports.

But like any of Ricky's masterpieces, there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments too.

It's full of poignancy, emotion, compassion and touches on topics that have affected most people such as cancer, Alzheimer's and loss.

Some scenes are devastatingly sad and others are inspiringly beautiful.
