Ricky Gervais jokes about toilet paper shortages: 'as long as I've got booze, I don't care'

Ricky Gervais has laughed off concerns about toilet paper shortages amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, saying: "As long as I've got booze, I don't care about toilet paper."

The former star of The Office star made the comments while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, promoting the second season of his Netflix series After Life.

"People haven't got their values right," joked the comedian. "If people are fighting over toilet rolls instead of booze, there's something wrong... I've always got enough booze in the house for a nuclear winter."

"I would swap my last toilet roll for a bottle of beer, if there's nothing in," he continued.

"There's no substitute for beer and wine. But [for toilet roll] there's books, there's grass..."

The famously provocative comedian also used the interview to advocate for animal charities, saying that many are being overlooked during the pandemic. "There's so many, and they're all so in need, more than ever," he said.

After Life focuses on Tony, played by Gervais, who struggles to find happiness after the death of his wife. Both seasons can be watched on Netflix now.
