Aug. 20--Frontera Grill's Rick Bayless will host some of Mexico's top chefs and mixologists at the third annual Mod Mex Mod Mix conference, a two-day event featuring tastings and a dinner.
On Sunday, Sept. 13, there's "Mod Mex Mod Mix: The Meal" ($195; $295 VIP) at Bayless' Topolobampo restaurant (445 N. Clark St.). The guest chefs and mixologists will make a five-course dinner with all-new cocktails and dishes. Dinner starts at 6 p.m., or upgrade to a VIP ticket to attend a 5 p.m. reception with Bayless and receive a signed copy of his latest book, "More Mexican Everyday."
Proceeds from Mod Mex Mod Mix will benefit Kendall College culinary students through donating to the Frontera Scholarship, which awards full tuition scholarships to Mexican-American students, and the Illinois Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, which awards scholarships to students looking to make a career in the hospitality industry.
The Mod Mex Mod Mix events are billed as a precursor to Chicago Gourmet, the food and wine festival taking place in and around Millennium Park from Sept. 25 to Sept. 27. Tickets to all Mod Mex/Mix events are available at the Chicago Gourmet website.
