Richarlison set to relive career high point as Everton fans hope he reprises same role

Evertonians could be forgiven for being less than enthusiastic that their most prolific frontman of the season to date is playing in an international friendly halfway around the world that kicks off at 4am on Wednesday but this fixture has a special place in Richarlison's heart.

The former Watford man, who was joint top scorer alongside Gylfi Sigurdsson in his first season at Goodison Park with 14 goals, has found the net three times in his last two outings for the Blues.

However, this week the 22-year-old has been on the other side of the Atlantic on international duty with Brazil for a brace of friendlies.

At first, Richarlison came up against club colleague Yerry Mina on Friday night (1am Saturday morning, UK time) for a 2-2 draw against Colombia at the Miami Dolphins' Hard Rock Stadium.

Now, having flown even further from Merseyside having decamped to the west coast of the USA to California, he is preparing to face Peru at Los Angeles' Memorial Coliseum.

The venue is appropriately-named given that the fixture marks a replaying of the high point of Richarlison's career to date.

Some 66 days on from their last meeting at Rio de Janeiro's iconic Maracana Stadium, the sides are crossing swords again.

Last time out it was the Copa America final, with Brazil facing the heavy weight of expectation to deliver that you would expect of a five-times World Cup-winning nation facing a relative minnow on home soil.

For Richarlison the game completed a remarkable fairy tale comeback story having began the tournament as one of Brazil's starters up front only to be dropped after a couple of lacklustre displays that saw the hosts booed by their own fans and then quarantined from the rest of the squad when he was laid low with a nasty bout of mumps.

However, he returned from his sick bed just in time to be named as a substitute for the final and having been thrown into the action by coach Tite with just 15 minutes remaining as a replacement for Liverpool's Roberto Firmino, Richarlison stepped up to convert a 90th minute penalty to seal a 3-1 win.

Having played 83 minutes in the previous game against Colombia, Richarlison has been tipped to reprise his Copa America final role and start on the bench on this occasion, possibly making way for Ajax's David Neres.

It's a decision that might win favour with many among Everton's fanbase who will be keeping their fingers crossed that their star stays fresh ahead of the 5,260 mile return trip to Liverpool.

Blues of course will also be hoping that Richarlison remains well-rested ahead of the weekend with Marco Silva's side travelling down to the south coast to face Bournemouth for a fixture in which the Brazilian was red carded last season, for head-butting Adam Smith.
