Richarlison, Romelu Lukaku and how Everton's attitude adjustment is on full display this transfer window

Each international break in the past used to bring with it a certain sense of trepidation for Everton fans.

While players were away, all too often Blues supporters would then see comments about potential moves away from Goodison Park - looking away to pastures new.

Thankfully, that's not the case anymore.

Marcel Brands and Marco Silva have brought in players not just with bags of quality, but with exactly the right attitude on and off the pitch to make them perfect role models at the club.

But there was a time when every transfer window would bring with it comments from certain players about potential moves.

Romelu Lukaku was often guilty of this - and the now-Manchester United star has been doing it again earlier this month as his future at Old Trafford is brought into question.

"I’ll speak with my club and my agent Federico Pastorello to make the best decision,” he said.

"I am going to enjoy my holidays with my family now. I know what I’ll do, but won’t say it. We’ll see. Do I expect a busy summer? Yes.

"I’ve had a difficult season at club level. I lost my place and haven’t played much. But that is a phase in my career and it will help me for the next step."

Sound familiar?

Well it should, because it is eerily similar to what Lukaku was saying about his Everton future around two years ago.

"Staying at Everton is not really an option for next season," the striker remarked in June 2017.

"I am staying calm about everything. There is nothing concrete with another club at the moment, but my agent is busy discussing things. I’m not going to make big declarations on my future, but I know where I want to play: in a club who are competing in the Champions League and can win titles in England."

Let's be clear, that was far from the first time the Belgian international had been caught speaking out of line during an international break.

It became a rather annoying and disrespectful trend of Lukaku's time at Goodison Park that he would be hinting towards a move away in the media whenever he was representing his country.

Fans could understand if maybe the striker wanted to move on, but to say it so blatantly in the media showed a certain lack of class that supporters won't tolerate.

That's why the 26-year-old got a rough time on his first ever return to the blue half of Merseyside last season, and why the Goodison Park faithful lauded in their side's victory just that little bit more.

And so, it won't be a surprise to Everton fans that this is seemingly happening all over again.

After losing his place in the Manchester United starting line-up last term, Lukaku has been strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

The striker is hardly ruling out such a transfer either, as his recent comments show.

Everton fans will scoff at those words however, because the club have moved on to a much better place.

The Blues might not have replaced the Belgian international's goals yet, but the attitude adjustment that has taken place at Goodison Park is there for everyone to see.

Richarlison in particular is the man on a lot of people's minds at the minute.

He moved for big money last summer, proved a lot of critics wrong and has now established himself as one of Brazil's main men ahead of a home Copa America. All at the age of 22.

The forward has been linked by some reports with a move away, with some of Europe's biggest clubs said to be interested in a potential swoop.

And what was the player's reaction to all this?

"It’s a nice feeling when you get praise for your good work, but I’m not thinking about a transfer at the moment,” Richarlison told  issue 301 of FourFourTwo.

"I’ve just arrived at Everton. I’m happy here."

In fact, Richarlison has recently admitted he is trying to get international teammate David Neres to join him at Finch Farm, rather than thinking about a move away himself.

This is Everton's star player showing the club ultimate respect, even when he's away with his country.

That's the way it should be. And that's something Lukaku has never seemed to grasp.
