Richarlison reveals what he told Rafa Benitez and Marcel Brands as he makes Everton 'legend' claim

Richarlison has said that his long-term ambition is to “become a legend” at Everton.

The 24-year-old was the subject of speculation surrounding his future during the recent transfer window, but he insists he is fully focussed on the Blues .

The Brazilian forward made a bright start to the season, scoring on the opening weekend against Southampton, and is now back fit to face former club Watford on Saturday.

Having been granted permission to take part in his country’s gold medal success at the Olympics this summer, Richarlison has explained what he said to Blues boss Rafa Benitez and Marcel Brands, upon his return to the club.

“As I told Rafa Benitez and [Director of Football] Marcel Brands at the beginning of the season, my entire focus is here at Everton. I'm focused here, this is where my head is, I want to help Everton meet their targets and make everybody happy,” he told evertonfc.com .

“What I want most of all, is to become a legend here.

“I see Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines as role models here at Everton.

“I think I can follow in their footsteps and become a legend here at the Club. I'm so proud when I get to the stadium and see the fans with my banner, with my name on their shirts.

“I feel proud, it's been a great start and I hope it continues this way so I can also become an Everton idol.”

Richarlison’s ambition to follow in the footsteps of club heroes Baines and Coleman will be music to the ears of Everton supporters.

His performances for the Toffees have seen him become a vital part of the Brazil national team, following his £40m move from Watford in 2018.

After a packed summer schedule, playing a role in his country’s journey to the Copa America Final before flying to Tokyo for the Olympics, the striker revealed the promise he made to Benitez, after returning to Finch Farm.

Richarlison played 15 games for his country after the end of last season - but came back at full-force for the start of the new campaign.

“I said to him [Benitez] that he could count on me, as I was totally focused. That's what happened, I came back scoring goals and providing assists,” he said.

“Everton is the English club that put its faith in me, together with Watford. That's why I dedicate myself so much for the shirt.

"Everton paid a lot of money to sign me, they gambled on me and trusted me and I have to repay this on the pitch.

“That's what I've been doing and hope to continue doing, always.”
