Richarlison reveals legendary Everton role model and makes goalscoring vow ahead of new campaign

Richarlison has named Dixie Dean as one of his role models at Everton.

The legendary centre-forward, who famously scored 60 goals in the 1927-28 season, netted 395 times in 447 Blues appearances during a prolific 14-year association with the Toffees.

Brazilian Richarlison, 22, arrived at Goodison Park last summer for a bumper £35m fee but quickly repaid the faith shown in him by Marco Silva and Marcel Brands by finding the back of the net 14 times in his maiden campaign.

After winning young player of the season at the club's end-of-season Dixie's - named in honour of Dean - Richarlison paid homage to the management duo by saying: “Marco and Marcel believe in me and they have been really important in my development this season, both in training and games.

“They are always talking to me, which really helps with my belief and confidence. They need me to be playing well and that is essential for me.

“My teammates' work on the pitch also made it possible for me to be considered for this award.”

Expanding on receiving the gong, Richarlison admitted he was flattered to be recognised and vowed to return even stronger next season.

“It is a great honour to receive a prize named after such a great goalscorer,” he added. “I want to score lots of goals like Dixie Dean. He is a role model for all us attackers.

“It is really important to receive this prize in his name. I am really happy to win this award, especially as it is recognition from the fans.

“I try to give back to them by working every day I wear this shirt. I want to score even more goals next season and come back even better.”
