Richarlison reacts to Edinson Cavani tackle he claims could have broken his ankle

Richalison believes Edinson Cavani could have broken his ankle after the striker was sent off in Uruguay’s 2-0 loss to Brazil.

But the Everton striker insists he bares no ill-will towards his Manchester United counterpart.

The Selecao claimed victory in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night, with the Toffees hitman heading home the second, after Arthur opened the scoring in the first half.

As La Celeste chased the game, Cavani, 33, was dismissed by referee Roberto Tobar following a clumsy challenge.

Initially booked, the official used VAR to change his decision and show Cavani a straight red.

Speaking post-game, Richarlison made light of the issue - albeit admitting he felt he could have been seriously injured.

“I think it was a ball dispute, he went over the top.

“If my foot was stuck it might have even broken my ankle, but I think it wasn’t bad.

“He tried to steal the ball and ended up missing.”

Brazil have won all three of their opening qualifiers, putting them in pole position for a spot in Qatar.

Richarlison added: "We are not getting arrogant because we're unbeaten.

"We know that every game is difficult and every game different but we are on the right path. Not because we've won but because sometimes we've been playing well.

"We are on the right path, we have total faith in the coaches and they have faith in us and so we'll keep looking to achieve our objective, which is to qualify for the World Cup finals."

He will return for Everton this weekend, with Carlo Ancelotti’s men having failed to win in his absence - having himself been sent off in the Merseyside derby last month.

Cavani, who scored his first Premier League goal for United in their win over the Toffees at Goodison Park last time out, is himself in line for a first league start for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, as they meet West Brom on Saturday evening.
