A lack of ambition meant Richarlison had to leave Everton for Tottenham this summer, the player has confirmed.

The Brazilian joined Spurs in a deal worth around £60m earlier this summer amid further interest from Chelsea after a strong season at Goodison Park.

While the club were fighting relegation, the 25-year-old scored 10 goals and proved influential in keeping Frank Lampard’s side in the Premier League.

As a result, Richalrison attracted strong interest from some of England’s leading teams, though it was Spurs who ultimately won the race.

During his short time in north London so far, the forward has made quite the impact.

Two goals on his Champions League debut against Marseille have been the highlight, although his overall contribution to Antonio Conte’s side has been impressive, with Richarlison making himself somewhat of a hero amongst supporters.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, he said: “I was happy at Everton and I’m grateful for everything I learned there. It’s a big club with a lot of history.

"However, perhaps they’re suffering with a lack of ambition nowadays. You know, that eagerness to win matches and trophies.

"I spent four years there and I could see there was still a very long way to go to achieve big things. I felt it was the right time to move on, and the club also had to make some money. It was a good deal for everyone involved. I’m delighted with this new challenge at Spurs."
