Richarlison deletes tweet regarding horror tackle after apology to Liverpool star Thiago

Richarlison appeared to downplay the severity of his tackle on Thiago Alcantara in a now-deleted tweet, despite apologising to the Liverpool star in the aftermath of the incident.

Everton forward Richarlison was handed a straight red card late on in the Merseyside derby after entering a knee-high challenge on Thiago with his studs showing.

The Brazilian took to his website to apologise for the challenge after the match, claiming it was the product of "sheer over-dedication".

But it appears Richarlison had second thoughts about how inexcusable his tackle was as he continued to reflect on the incident after the 2-2 draw.

The 23-year-old posted a picture of the tackle's follow through on his Twitter account in which he appears to be in great pain.

Alongside the picture, Richarlison posted a thinking face emoji which appears to imply he believes the tackle should be reassessed - but he has since deleted the tweet.

Thiago was able to see out the final few minutes but Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed after the match the £20million summer signing was likely injured.

"‘I leave the pitch and Thiago tells me that in the red card situation with Richarlison he thinks he got injured," Klopp told BT Sport .

"We will see if it’s true or not. When a player feels like this we’ll immediately have a look."

The Reds also lost defender Virgil van Dijk to injury after a dubious challenge by Jordan Pickford, while they saw Jordan Henderson's late winner ruled out for offside.

“We lost one player in a VAR , maybe another one with the red-card situation and then had a ‘goal’ ruled out,” Klopp added. “Obviously not our day.”

Liverpool face a nervous wait on Thaigo and Van Dijk's fitness ahead of their trip to Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday.
