Richard Sherman says he predicted he’d pick Kyle Allen on this dig route

Kyle Allen threw three interceptions against the 49ers yesterday. The pick he threw to Richard Sherman was undoubtedly the worst of them.

Funny story: Sherman claims he predicted he’d pick this route and told his teammates earlier in the week.

Now, you have to take everything Sherman says about his opponents with a grain of salt, especially considering his recent manufactured controversy with Baker Mayfield. That said, Sherman did provide some interesting context for what happened on the play.

Sherman says Allen tried to look the DBs off and then threw blindly with pressure in his face.

That would certainly explain why the ball was so far off the mark.

We’ve beaten up enough on Allen, here. While it’s true he could have played far better, this was ultimately a case of a backup quarterback facing the top defense in the NFC with an offensive line going through some ill-advised changes. It wasn’t too hard to see this disaster coming.

Allen did well enough during this stretch to keep the Panthers’ playoff hopes alive. Now it’s time to hand the reins back to the starter. Once Cam Newton’s foot is back to 100%, it’ll be an easy decision to make.
