Veteran cornerback Richard Sherman signed a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason that he negotiated himself without an agent, and while his incentive-laden deal could result in a maximum value of $39 million over that span, some analysts criticized Sherman at the time for agreeing to a deal that included just $3 million in guaranteed money. Sherman signed the deal just before turning 31 years old, and he clearly bet on himself to continue to play at an elite level. Through one year in San Francisco, Sherman is cashing in.
Sherman triggered a $1 million incentive for being voted into the Pro Bowl in December, and on Friday, he cashed another $2 million for earning All-Pro second team honors. Sherman is now a four-time All-Pro player, including three first-team selections. He finished the 2019 regular season with 61 tackles, 11 pass deflections, three interceptions and one defensive touchdown.
After the All-Pro teams were announced, Sherman asked his followers on Twitter to dig up all the old takes about his contract from analysts, and gleefully roasted the experts and fans alike.
