Richard Sherman plans to return vs. Rams

The 49ers’ Wednesday injury report didn’t change, but they received some significant good news on the health front. Richard Sherman told reporters after Wednesday’s practice that he expects to play Saturday night at Levi’s Stadium against the Rams.

I’ll be out there,” Sherman said via ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. “There’s no question.”

Sherman suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain against the Saints, and missed last week’s loss to the Falcons. Head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated after Sherman’s diagnosis that the cornerback would miss multiple weeks. Playing Saturday would cut that timeline down significantly.

The only real concern about Sherman moving forward is how healthy he can keep that hamstring. Defensive end Dee Ford returned two weeks after hurting a hamstring and re-aggravated that injury before halftime in his return. Now he may miss the rest of the regular season, and his playoff availability is in question if the 49ers do play Wild Card Weekend.

San Francisco’s final two games are huge, and having Sherman on the field is a tremendous boost to a secondary that struggled at times against Atlanta with the 31-year-old out.

Here’s Wednesday’s practice report:

Did not participate

DE Dee Ford (quad, hamstring)
DL Jullian Taylor (elbow)
SS Jaquiski Tartt (ribs)

Limited participation

OL Mike Person (neck)

Full participation

CB K’Waun Williams (concussion)
CB Richard Sherman (hamstring)
