Richard Osman said Wales isn't a country on Pointless Celebrity

Richard Osman left Pointless viewers angry on Saturday night after claiming Wales isn't a country.

The quiz show presenter made the claim after asking celebrity contestant and Saturday Kitchen chef Matt Tebbutt to name a country with five letters or fewer.

Matt, teamed with TV wine expert Olly Smith, opted to answer with Wales over other contestant's choices including Chad and Chile.

But the foodie's attempt was rejected as Osman replied: "United Kingdom is the country I'm afraid."

Laughing off the encounter, the show creator added: "We are going to be given something disgusting to eat next time we're on Saturday Kitchen."

When team mate Olly went up to take on the challenge, Alexander Armstrong clarified: "Remember Olly, we are looking for countries, and by countries I mean a sovereign state that is recognised by the United Nations, with five letters or fewer."

Needless to say, Welsh viewers were not left happy with the exchange.

You can catch the next Pointless Celebrities on October 27 at 3.50pm.
