Richard Marshall reveals Salford Red Devils' top pre-season performer

Richard Marshall has revealed that new Salford signing Danny Addy has made a mighty impression in the off-season.

The Scotland international joined the club in the off-season from Leigh Centurions and has been among the standout performers in training following Marshall's arrival at the club.

Addy, 30, has been on Marshall's radar for several years during his time coaching against him and is looking forward to now working in tandem at the AJ Bell Stadium.

"I've been really impressed with Danny," Marshall said.

"I've coached against him a few times in the Championship and he was held in very high regard at Leigh last year.

"He's gone under the radar but I believe with a bit of coaching and development he could be a top-end Super League player. He's got all the attributes, he's tough, very smart, astute and has leadership qualities. He's one I've known about but you don't know until you coach them and he's a quality person."

Throughout his career, Addy had played in a variety of positions which has resulted in him being tagged as a utility player, though Marshall doesn't believe that should be perceived negatively.

"Sometimes it does you no favours but the modern game requires all the skills Danny has got. He's good in contact and wrestle and he can pass out of both hands.

"I think he's really good at hooker and can get a team around the field, but I reckon he's that nine or 13 player, he can guide a team off the deck but you get more minutes out of him at 13.

"The modern game requires that and he plays the way I like to play the game. I like playing out through our 13, sometimes you need another middle to give you further reinforcement but he is that as well to be fair."
