Richard Madeley taken to hospital during I'm A Celebrity after 'medical emergency'

Richard Madeley has been taken ill while in the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! castle, it has been confirmed.

The presenter, 65, who has recently been co-presenting Good Morning Britain with Susanna Reid, had just taken part in a trial.

Medics went into Gwrych castle in Wales overnight to tend to Madeley, WalesOnline reported.

UPDATE: It's since been announced that Madeley has quit I'm A Celebrity.

An ITV spokesperson said: "Richard was unwell in the early hours and was immediately seen by our on-site medical team.

"He's since been taken to hospital as a precaution, the health and safety of our campmates is our priority."

It happened just after Richard took part in the Kitchen Nightmares trial, which saw him dive headfirst down a shoot and doused in mouldy fruit and vegetables as he searched for stars, the Mirror reports.

A Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 05.43am this morning (Thursday, November 25), to reports of a medical emergency at Gwrych Castle in Abergele, Conwy.

“We sent a paramedic in a rapid response car and an emergency ambulance to the scene, and one patient was taken to hospital.”

Madeley, a presenter and journalist, is best-known for hosting This Morning alongside his wife Judy Finnigan.

He is one of 12 contestants taking part in this year’s series, filmed for the second year in the UK rather than in the Australian outback due to coronavirus restrictions.

I'm A Celebrity continues on Thursday night at 9pm on ITV.
