Richard Madeley reveals what he tried to smuggle into the ITV I'm A Celebrity camp

Richard Madeley has revealed the item he attempted to smuggle into the I'm A Celebrity camp.

The presenter returned to Good Morning Britain on Monday after his premature exit from the ITV reality show.

Richard, 65, was forced off the show after falling ill in the early hours of last Thursday morning (November 25).

He was taken to hospital as a precaution but has said dehydration may have been the cause of him having to leave the castle for the emergency A&E visit.

Richard told GMB hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard that he woke up "babbling" and didn't know where he was.

"As it turned out, it was harmless, there was nothing wrong," he added.

Despite being given a clean bill of health, Richard was unable to return to camp at Gwrych Castle due to breaking the show's the Covid-19 bubble.

With him being "as fit as a fiddle", Ben and Susanna took the opportunity to get the gossip from behind-the-scenes of I'm A Celeb from Richard.

And the former This Morning host revealed that he tried to smuggle in a digital watch into camp.

Susanna, 50, asked: "You said they took away your watch?"

To which Richard said: "Yes, straight away – everything."

Susanna added: "So what is taken away because that must be quite disorientating in itself."

"Including the things you tried to smuggle in," Richard laughed. "I tried to smuggle in a tiny little digital watch in the arm of my zipper jacket and they took it away.

"And Naughty Boy tried to smuggle in some cumin."

"But he told them about it though, didn't he?" Ben pointed out.

"I know," Richard said. "What was he thinking? What a stupid thing to do!"

Ben then joked: "It's because he's not a Naughty Boy, he's a..." as Richard interjected: "He's an honourable boy."

He added: "Yeah, they take away your watch. And the week beforehand you surrender your phone when you're in the quarantine house.

"So you are out of touch with the world a week beforehand and you go in pure and are ready for anything."
