Richard Madeley reveals bizarre reason he turned down Strictly Come Dancing

Richard Madeley has revealed he turned down Strictly Come Dancing for a bizarre reason.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, who is standing in for Piers Morgan, told former Strictly professional Kristina Rihanoff that he has been approached to take part in the BBC dancing contest multiple times.

Richard confessed he refuses to take part as there is one dance in particular that would make him "look stupid".

During a debate on whether men or women are better dancers, Richard let slip he had been in talks with a Strictly booker.

The legendary presenter said: "I was talking to a booker from Strictly Come Dancing the other day because, for their folly, sometimes they ask me to go on it and I always say no.

"She was saying that more women celebrities say yes than men, it's much harder to get male celebrities to go on and do it.

"I wouldn't do it because of the jive. I cannot conceivably come on in spandex and lurex and do the flick kicks."

The embarrassed presenter added: "I would look so stupid."

Richard has previously stated that he would be unable to do the show for health reasons after popping a disc in his back in 1980.

On today's Good Morning Britain, Richard jumped into the debate on whether men or women are better at dancing.

"This is actually quite sexist but we'll go with it," blasted Richard, who was unconvinced on the claim.

Kristina Rihanoff said she believes females have better balance because of their lower centre of gravity and are more in tune with their emotions.

Richard accepted her point, admitting that women do "sashay and sway" when they walk.

While dance sensation Adam Garcia countered by arguing Latin American men have no problem being flexible, so it could be more of a cultural issue.

Richard pointed out that more men have won Strictly, but Kristina hit back by arguing female professionals took them to the glitterball trophy.
