Richard Madeley on replacing GMB's Piers Morgan and death threats

Richard Madeley has said he would definitely 'talk' to Good Morning Britain if they wanted him to replace Piers Morgan - even though he has previously received death threats.

"If the phone went and they said, ‘would you come in and talk?’, of course I would talk to them. It would be bonkers not to,” Richard told Metro.co.uk

However, the presenter said he also enjoys sitting in for people on the show - because he "has all the fun and very little of the responsibility or flak".

But Richard said he "couldn’t give a **** about internet trolls ad twitter abuse.

"I remember when I started sitting in for Piers on Good Morning Britain, I’d have a look at Twitter after I’d done a programme and, yes, you get some nice comments but you also get horrendous abuse and, from time to time, death threats."

When quizzed about the death threats, Richard told Metro that "obviously some... have to be taken seriously" but "99.9%" were "coming from sad losers who’ve got nothing better to do".

"I’ve not reported any to the police because that would mean I’d take them seriously," said Richard.

"If anyone reads this and thinks, ‘Right, well, I’ll have a go,’ by all means do, because I won’t be reading it and even if I did, I wouldn’t give a tuppenny damn."

The Metro interview, which can read here, also sees Richard discuss life in lockdown with wife Judy and a short story he's written to mark World Book Night.
