Richard Madeley makes epic gaffe as he swears live on Good Morning Britain while standing in for Piers Morgan

Richard Madeley was forced to apologise after he swore live on Good Morning Britain.

The presenter, who has been standing in for Piers Morgan, appeared completely unaware as he casually made the error whilst interview The Voice winner Molly Hocking with her coach Olly Murs.

Hocking landed herself a record deal and the winner's title after her performances of A Star is Born hit I'll Never Love Again and Lewis Capaldi’s Someone You Loved wowed the public on Saturday night.

Speaking to Hocking about her win, the host said: “Reality really kicks in when there’s a moment and you just say, “s*** I won!”

The error went completely over the guests’ heads as neither reacted to the mistake.

Addressing viewers, Madeley apologised for the slip-up admitting he hadn’t realised what he said.

He explained: “Apparently I might have said the word beginning with an ‘s’ and ending in a ‘t’, I didn’t think I had. But if I did I can only apologise.”

His co-host Charlotte Hawkins gasped before adding: “You were overexcited. We do apologise if you were offended by that!”

Oh dear: Murs and Hocking completely missed the on-air error (Good Morning Britain/ ITV)

Viewers were quick to pull the host up on the gaffe with some mocking him with a “tut tut” online.

One user wrote: “Oh dear Richard, swearing on live telly!!”

Another added: “I’m pretty sure Richard just swore on GMB? Tut Tut.”

“Naughty Richard. He said "s***" on live TV,” posted a third.

Madeley has stepped in for Morgan whilst Hawkins has taken his co-host Susanna Reid’s usual place as the pair enjoy a brief break from screens. The presenting duo’s absence coincides with the Easter school holidays.

The pair are expected to return to the breakfast show on Tuesday 23 April, after the bank holiday.

Before leaving the show for the holidays, Morgan celebrated string of successful nods for the show after they landed two nominations at the BAFTA TV awards.

Morgan declared the news “pretty stunning” after the show previously lost out on recognition to This Morning at the National Television Awards.
