Richard Madeley explains why he turned down Strictly Come Dancing

Richard Madeley opened up about the self conscious reason he always turns down a place in the Strictly Come Dancing line up.

It seems that the presenter, who is standing in for Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain, is a little worried about a certain dance.

While speaking to former Strictly professional Kristina Rihanoff for a debate about whether female dancers are better than male, Richard revealed he’d been approached to take part in the show several times.

But due to his worries that one dance would make him "look stupid", he always turns the show down.

He said: "I was talking to a booker from Strictly Come Dancing the other day because, for their folly, sometimes they ask me to go on it and I always say no.

"She was saying that more women celebrities say yes than men, it's much harder to get male celebrities to go on and do it.

"I wouldn't do it because of the jive. I cannot conceivably come on in spandex and lurex and do the flick kicks."

He added: "I would look so stupid."

The veteran presenter has stated in the past that he wouldn’t be able to take part due to having slipped a disc in the past.

Once he’d made his revelations, Richard gave his thoughts on the debate, which came off the back of new Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse who reportedly said that women are better dancers than men.

Richard, unconvinced, said: "This is actually quite sexist but we'll go with it.”

Kristina explained that she believes females have better balance because of their lower centre of gravity.

But Coyote Ugly star Adam Garcia argued that Latin American men have no problem being flexible, suggesting the issue could be cultural.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
