Richard Madeley details 'humiliating' fake tan blunder that left GMB co-stars and viewers mocking him

Richard Madeley has detailed the 'humiliating' moment he realised he made a massive error hours before going on live TV.

The presenter was speaking on Thursday's Loose Women which had been re-branded Loose Men with an all-male panel to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week.

Richard was joined by Diversity star Jordan Banjo, TV judge Robert Rinder and actor and singer Martin Kemp for the episode which saw them discussing mental health, male body confidence, whether flirting is cheating and more.

During the conversation on body image, the former This Morning host discussed how he has had to put up with people accusing him of dying his hair blonde for years - despite being born "Boris Johnson blonde."

This led him to counteract his story with another anecdote from an appearance on Good Morning Britian a couple of years ago.

"You sometimes can actually walk into a trap of your own making," he began on the ITV lunchtime show.

He explained how when filling in for Piers Morgan last year, he got "so much attention" after an at-home blunder.

"It was half past three in the morning in the kitchen. My face was all dry from shaving, I put on some moisturiser got in the car and drove in.

"Flash forward to eight o'clock and I could hear the director in the gallery whispering to people and there was giggling.

Richard didn't realise his appearance was quickly changing (ITV)

"We went into a break and I said, 'What are you laughing at?' and they said, 'You're trending Richard'.

"I said why and they said because you are getting darker and darker and darker.

"I was doing a Donald Trump."

Richard then explained that he had actually put his daughter's fake tan on.

"It was strong stuff," he added.

"It was humiliating but the attention that it got."

The 65-year-old used the story to explain how men are under a lot more scrutiny, whether in the public eye or not.
