Richard Madden: I will only give Bodyguard a second shot if storyline is strong enough

Actor Richard Madden has said he will only sign up to a second series of the hit BBC drama Bodyguard if the storyline is strong enough.

The series finale was watched by 17.1 million in September and saw police protection officer David Budd uncovering a conspiracy at the top of the police and security services which had led to the death of home secretary Julia Montague, played by Keeley Hawes.

Game Of Thrones star Madden, 32, confirmed he had met Bodyguard writer Jed Mercurio to discuss the possibility of a second series and they are due to meet again by the end of the month.

Madden told A List: “I’ve just met with Jed to talk through ideas for what could be done for the second series.

“The thing is, when I signed on for the first I only ever thought there would be one and I think all the loose ends were pretty much tied up in it. I’m not sure where we would go with it, and it would have to be a strong story-line that made sense for me to agree to it."

He added, “I’ve just come back from Los Angeles where we launched the show on Netflix, so to now see it going out to an American audience is fantastic.”
