Richard Keys slams 'confusing' VAR for disallowing Everton goal against Liverpool

Richard Keys has questioned why Conor Coady's goal was ruled out for Everton versus Liverpool, suggesting the match officials are 'making it up as they go along'.

Frank Lampard's men looked to have taken the lead in the second half when Coady tapped in Neal Maupay's ball across the face of goal, only for a VAR check to intervene and deem the defender to be in an offside position prior to making contact with the ball.

Video technology then took centre stage in Chelsea's win over West Ham, with David Moyes' side denied a late leveller following a goal review. Taking to Twitter to express his frustration, Keys was left perplexed by the decisions made on Saturday afternoon.

Commenting on Coady's disallowed strike, he tweeted: "I’m confused again. We’ve been told that if a player goes to make a deliberate block and the ball touches him then you can’t be off-side. Liverpool benefitted v Spurs like that a couple of seasons ago and again here. They make it up as they go along.

"PGMOL confirm I’m right - but say the defender has to ‘deliberately make a block’. Well - what was Milner trying to do if not ‘deliberately’ block Maupay’s attempt?

"Another really bad day for VAR. West Ham were robbed. It was a shocking decision that cost them an equaliser. Newcastle should have a pen or their goal should stand & I’ll remain convinced Everton could’ve had a winner. The reasoning will be interesting."
