Richard Keys claims FSG may take Mohamed Salah decision after new Liverpool contract

Richard Keys has claimed that Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool ‘for £60m’ in the summer of 2023.

Salah put pen to paper on a new three-year contract with Liverpool on Friday, which will extend his stay at Anfield to at least 2025. The ECHO understands that the Egyptian forward will earn more than £350,000 a week, making him the highest paid player in the club’s history.

The 30-year-old, who has scored 156 goals in 254 appearances for the Reds since his £36.5m move from Roma in 2017, only had a year left to run on his previous deal and there were doubts about whether he would remain at the club.

Now Keys, the former Sky Sports presenter, has claimed Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group may decide to sell Salah in a year’s time, now his value is protected with the new contract.

He tweeted: “The new deal is obviously great news - but do we think Salah will be at Anfield for its duration?

“Or will he be on his way for £60m a year from now - the gross value of the contract? That’s better than he walks for nothing.”

Salah is not expected to leave the club now and will instead look to add to the numerous honours he has attained at Liverpool after committing his future to the Reds.

Salah has won the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup and League Cup during his time at Anfield. On a personal level, he was voted PFA Players’ Player of the year in 2017/18 and 2021/22, while he also won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2021/22.
