Richard Herd dead as Seinfeld actor passes away aged 87

Hollywood actor Richard Herd has died at the age of 87.  

The actor, most loved for his role as Mr Wilhelm in the hit TV sitcom Seinfeld, reportedly passed away at home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, May 26.

Richard’s wife of 40 years, actress Patricia Crowder Herd, revealed the news of her husband’s death to The Hollywood Reporter.  

Character actor Richard, originally from Boston, played a range of roles on stage and screen throughout his 50-year career.

Richard appeared 11 times over three Seinfeld seasons.

His portrayal of the iconic supervisor Mr Wilhelm to George Costanza (Jason Alexander) was his most recognisable performance.

He also appeared on 'T.J. Hooker' and three 'Star Trek' shows.

It's understood Richard died of cancer related issues.
