Richard Dunne critical of Ireland after win over Latvia

Richard Dunne was critical of Ireland after their win over Latvia on Wednesday.

Ireland were coasting at the Aviva Stadium with goals from Callum O'Dowda and Evan Ferguson.

But two long-range strikes saw Latvia back level at the half.

Ireland would go on to win thanks to a goal from Chiedoze Ogbene.

Richard Dunne was not happy with Ireland's performance, saying the game did not benefit the side.

Speaking on Virgin Media, he said: "I enjoyed the first 20-odd minutes and thought there was some really good play. Latvia certainly weren't that great in that first period but Ireland made them look bad.

"The movement from (Evan) Ferguson and intelligence from (Will) Smallbone just looked really smooth and a good rhythm to the play.

"After that, it sort of died off. Latvia got a bit more organised and as soon as a team becomes organised we don't have them key players with the passes in between the lines.

"When Latvia got the first goal you could sense they were back in the game and we just seemed to lose our way".

He added: "They were really poor for the first hour and a half of the game and the fact they were in control is a worrying thing and it's something that has happened to us on previous occasions.

"It's very difficult to judge anything off that and for us there is no real benefit from that match because it doesn't reflect what we're going to face on Monday and there are no real major positives on the performance.

"Overall it was just a bit of a mixed night and there wasn't loads of reasons to be ecstatic."
