Richard Dawkins, Britain’s most famous atheist, rose to prominence in 1976 with the release of his groundbreaking work, The Selfish Gene. Although he considers himself a private person, he is outlandish on social media, and his reputation swings from beloved to loathed.
Dawkins describes his childhood as a normal Anglican upbringing, yet he concluded the theory of evolution was a better explanation for life’s complexity, and he ceased to believe in God.
In 2006, he released The God Delusion, which became an international bestseller. Since then, he has written two volumes of memoir and travelled the world as part of a documentary team with physicist Lawrence Krauss, proclaiming that the world needs science and rationality more than ever.
